I’m baaack

Just a friendly warning to you all lol. I finally got my internet back and have been working on a few things lately that I would like to share. My boyfriend’s mom picked me up a couple boxes of craftsy stuff last weekend at a rummage sale here and I have to say that I now blame her for my current obsession with Cross Stitch. I have done cross stitch off and on over the years but after my oldest son was born (he is now 13) I somewhat put everything done due to the fact that I just never seemed to have the time or the money to do it anymore.

Let me give you a little history on me. I get obsessed with various craft ventures for a time and stock up on anything and everything related to the craft, I go balls to the wall for a while and then all of the sudden, BAM I hit a wall! lol I think I tend to overload myself and then just can’t take it anymore. Scrapbooking, quilting, oragomi, crochet, cross stitch, are just a few things that I have done this with over the years. I love crafts and I love creating new things, I just have an issue with actually finishing projects that I start. I am definitely adhd when it comes to that aspect of things.

I noticed I was starting to do this with my crochet projects lately. Once I started working full time my crochet time suffered horribly and I was starting projects but not picking them back up and finishing them for the most part. I need to end that bad habit. But anyways, back to my original vein of conversation (yes it’s early in the am, and no I have not had coffee yet, if you can’t tell lol) in these boxes of craftsy stuff there was an assortment of floss, cross stitch aida cloth, a couple of pattern books, some guest towels and bibs. Needless to say I have been hooked since I looked at them. I had honestly forgotten how much I enjoy doing the craft. My only wish was that I didn’t have to drive 25 miles to get more floss and supplies as my local Walmart seems to think that no one out this way is of the craft pursuasion 😦

I also finally aquired a sewing machine yesterday afternoon and have been happily sewing away some little creations. I say little but the dog bed that I made last night is over 3 feet long and about 2 feet wide 🙂 But it fits my big puppy just perfectly and she is content, so therefore I am. I made a cute little tank top tote for my daughter also, that was a bit trickier due to the material, but I think she will like the results.

Ok now that I am done rambling I am just going to throw a couple of completed project pictures on here for you to look at. I promise to try and get back into the swing of blogging again and updating 🙂 Hope you all are having a wonderful joyful weekend.

The pumpkin hat is the one that I posted about a few weeks back, it fits beautifully. The pink strawberry shortcake hat was the revision of the white one I posted a couple of weeks ago. I changed up the color and added some leaves and strawberries on the top 🙂

Internet issues

Hi all, for those of you that subscribe to my blog and actually like hearing what I have to say, I just wanted to let you all know that I am fine, just having internet issues that I am hoping will be resolved very shortly so I can get back to sharing with all of you.

I do have the wordpress app on my phone, but really detest using it to post stuff, it is wonderful for keeping up with my blogs that I follow but I don’t trust it to do a good post on here, so until this is resolved I shall remain pretty quiet on here. 🙂

Hope everyone is good and keeping busy with all those wonderful projects!

Strawberry Shortcake Hat

Hi all, so I have been getting into the swing of being back at work again. The last week has been rough let me tell ya! I am one of those unfortunate people that is always in pain no matter what steps I take to prevent it. I don’t like to take a lot of medicine so I usually just curl up next to my heating pad and nap after work, which translates to me sleeping for hours and not getting a whole lot of stuff done.

That being said I have gotten a few things done and have been working on a couple of things for customer orders (yes I still plan on crocheting and selling items even though I now work full time). I have a few things in the works right now, and 7 customer orders to fill soon. I have been working on a really cute childrens hat the last day or so at the request of a friend. It’s a modern twist on the Strawberry Shortcake hat of my generation. There are a few different patterns out there, but me being me, I just had to make my own version 🙂 You can find a similar version on etsy here http://www.etsy.com/listing/89500237/strawberry-shortcake-hat-pattern?ref=sr_gallery_21&ga_search_query=strawberry+shortcake+hat&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=US&ga_min=0&ga_max=0&ga_search_type=all

I have to state that I did not buy the pattern but took inspiration from hers, hence the link to go check it out. My version is below.

It is not complete, I am thinking of stitching on some small strawberries and also putting an upside down strawberry on the top, I haven’t decided just yet. Either way I think she will be happy with it.

I also have a number of WIP that I need to finish up sometime soon, they are starting to take over my desk, couch, rocking chair, side table…….lol yes they are everywhere and multiplying by the minute. I tried to make my Open Shell Cowl pattern using a clearance skein of Thick and Quick yarn I purchased a few weeks back and unfortunately ran out of yarn before it was big enough so I have decided to line it with some flannel I have in my goody bin and make it into a hook case, I am just trying to figure out if I need to hand sew the lining on or if I use a sewing machine? Any suggestions? I don’t want the thread seams to show on the front, that is why I am wondering which way to go with it.

I started making a stuffed dragon plush toy and have gotten the head, snout, body and one arm done, just need the other half of it to be finished, but that is for another day. My daughter informed me the other day that she needs a wardrobe for her build a bear workshop bear I got her a month or so ago, so I will be scouring the net for some free patterns to make those this weekend (evidently there is now a deadline attached to her demand lol). I tried free handing them and have failed miserably, I am not ashamed to admit. Evidently making miniature clothing is not my forte. If anyone knows of a resource for clothing that will fit a roughly 12″ bear I would be deeply grateful.

I also have a huge bag of miscellaneous fiber from the mill that I brang home that I need to figure out what to do with. I was thinking of using it for stuffing but then I look at it and think it’s such a shame to hide it (it’s all alpaca, llama and wool fibers) so I am now thinking of trying to maybe felt some of it??? This should be interesting as it will be a totally new thing for me. I also have another bag of scrap yarns from our spinners that I am wanting to make a random yarn out of and also wanting to weave some runners and placemats out of whatever is left. I need to find a weaving loom, or possibly have the boyfriend make me one. He is wonderful with wood. He also made me a crochet hook out of our pine tree branches a month ago that is absolutely wonderful to hold. I will be hitting him up shortly for a whole set 🙂

Well now that I have rambled on and on, this chic is heading for bed and dreamland, 6 a.m. comes mighty early. Here’s to hoping all of you in cyberspace have a wonderful fun filled evening.

This and that

So I have officially survived my second day of working in the mill. Not sick of yarn or fibers as of yet, but I do have to say that my everything hurts! Omg, you never realize just how out of shape you are until you have to be on your feet for 8+ hours straight and walk about 12 miles in that time period. I need to get a pedometer just to validate that, but trust me it sure feels like that much. I came home covered in alpaca hair, dirty from head to toe, and pleased with a job well done. I also managed to snag a bag (huge garbage bag) full of unwanted fibers to use to stuff my animals that I have started making. Sweet! Thank you to my wonderful boss 🙂

Now to quit sneezing and get to work on my dragon that I started last night. It is one of my first attempts at amigurumi (sp?) and it is turning out decent so far, we shall see when the end product gets done. Course with it being almost a foot tall is it still considered a tiny stuffed animal? Or has it graduated to a new class, hmmm…

Oh, did anyone else enter Red Heart’s Contest on their site? It’s for a Wednesday night crochet along or some such thing, I think it ends in December but please don’t quote me on that, head on over and check it out if you haven’t already. It’s always a win win to showcase your projects and to get the chance to win free yarn and tools 🙂

Hopefully my next post will be of my completed dragon, but honestly I am so tired right now I see me falling asleep on the couch instead of crocheting at the moment. Maybe a nap and then crochet, sounds like a deal to me 🙂

Fall and Halloween

Well Fall is officially here (or close enough anyways) and I have started thinking about things that I can create to fit the season. I took a lovely hike last weekend to our beautiful Castlewood Canyon State Park and spent more time crouching down and contorting myself to take pictures of leaves and flowers than I did actually hiking 🙂 I am a ameteur photography buff and just love taking pictures of anything and everything that interests me. Part of my agenda that day was to photograph some leaves and flowers along with tree bark to try and create some patterns utilizing natures beauty. I have been wracking my brain trying to figure out how to translate this picture into a pattern that does it justice….needless to say I have not had much success so far but I will keep trying as I think this would be absolutely stunning!

I am also thinking about some Halloween fun items (yes I know I should have started this a couple of months ago) such as a super cute design I thought up last night as insomnia was attacking me. A multi-colored background with a skull and crossbones (cute, not scary) design in the middle, think flag or hanging pendant. I am thinking it will have to be created via a Tapesty/cross-stitch pattern versus the normal crochet patterns. I am going to play with it today and see how it goes, I need to do some research on the tapestry designs as I have not utilized them as yet for a pattern, but I am thinking it couldn’t be much different than cross-stitch and I have had a lot of experience with those 🙂 I have already drawn up the graph for the project, just need to make up my ever changing mind on which approach to attack with! Wish me luck.

I look forward to this weekend, I have been promised a semi-productive yarn run to the nearest town to Hobby Lobby and Micheals to pick up some of the oranges (my most hated color to be perfectly honest) greens and browns that I am going to need for other ideas that are swimming around in my overactive head at the moment. So be looking forward to some fall inspired designs and of course halloween fun things in the next week. (Pumpkins, toys, bags and just plain fun stuff)

We all have a color that we just don’t utilize in our own creations on a regular basis and mine happens to be oranges and yellows, I simply do not care for them in everyday use but for some projects they are just simply needed 🙂 If you have a suggestion of where to find some good coupons for craft supplies I would greatly appreciate it, every little bit helps when it comes to stretching a budget.

Another day in Nyquil

Hi all, I just wanted to pop in and say that I am here still, just very sick. I think I caught the flu or some such thing. Needless to say my energy and communication levels are very low at the moment. While I have been laid up the last couple days I have gotten a few projects done and will be posting my first Free Pattern either tonight or tomorrow. I love the design and it is super easy to work up and takes less than a skein of yarn. Yay for one skein wonders! I am also working on a new yarn tote for myself to help me carry around my projects 🙂 My current little hobo bag that I use just isn’t getting the job done anymore.

Hope everyone is well and in good spirits. Look for the free pattern soon (within 24 hours) and hopefully you all enjoy and share it with friends and fellow hookers 🙂

Drowning in my stash

As I sit down at my computer this morning I am looking around at all of my started but not finished projects, my patterns that are scattered over every surface, my tiny balls of yarn that are leftovers and forgottens, and of course all of my brand spanking new skeins of yarn that are just begging to be brought out and used. I have several different places that I have stored all these lovely little tidbits, but so far I have not been able to find a manageable way to store them all where I can see them (I tend to forget I have a certain something if I can’t see it all the time) and to also make it to where my office (spare bedroom) does not look like someone set off a grenade within it. Not that I mind all the lovely colors popping out everywhere, I just need to organize this pile so I can figure out just exactly what I have and what project I want to start on next.

I tend to lean towards projects that call for one skein or less, lets be honest, I’m cheap and I have a very limited budget within to work all this magic! I love finding discounted and on sale yarns locally and usually there is only one or two skeins of each color, that or my pocketbook can only handle a hit of $10 or less therefore I am limited, but this also makes for some fantastic little pops of color on my wall (one of my storage areas are a couple of wonderful wooden cubbyhole shelves) but as I said earlier they are all just begging to be used! It always takes me a day or two after completing a project to make up my mind what I want to start on next 🙂

I am thinking that today though I may just have to bust out some of my organizing bins (see through of course) and organize this lovely mess to see just what I have available to work with, and then I am going to scour the internet for some inspiration on what my heart desires to create. I have been contemplating starting to make a different motif everyday, be it a granny square, african flower, spirals, you name it and hopefully by christmas have enough motifs to possibly put together a lovely blanket to send to my dear grandmother, sounds like a decent plan to me, plus this will help me to use up all my scrap/stash yarn that I have laying around everywhere, gotta love killing two birds with one stone.

And now dear friends I am off to play organizer, wish me luck!
